Tess

I love everything about horses from an artist's point of view. Tess is my cousin, Janet's horse - a beautiful Morgan with a peaceful demeanor. Her quiet, sweet presence shows in her soft brown eyes, captured here in watercolor.

Newburyport Art Association "8 Cubed" Show

I'm entered in an art show in Newburyport, MA where the artwork had to be created on 8x8 stretched canvases. Any medium is accepted. This meant for me that my watercolor paper had to be adhered to the canvas and painted on in that form and shape. These pieces can't be framed (which works well for oil and acrylics, but not so much for pastel and watercolor). I found that working outside my usual routine of painting on paper and framing under glass, I could paint on the canvas, spray the work with an archival protective coat and have my work ready for the wall without frame and glass.

These are the two works I'm submitting today. The archival coating has not affected the color of the work. I'm really quite happy with the new option.

Working Side by Side

Starting fresh today with a body of new work. Keeping it interesting with two works at once! --- A portrait and a small still life.

First up, a portrait of our handsome neighbordoodle. Working to showcase his sweet disposition and good looks shining through the curls. It starts with the eyes...

Also on this bleak April morning (with threats of more snow), I'm working on a small still life featuring my favorite of my still life glassware favs, a peach-colored Hungarian glass surrounded by the blossoms of a blue/purple hyacinth. At least the fragrance of the flower brings the promise of spring if the weather outside my window doesn't....

"Water & Light"

"Water & Light" is now displayed in the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery, at the New Hampshire Art Association in Portsmouth, NH. The show features my latest work and the extraordinary digital b&w photographs of my friend, photographer Michael Sterling. Combining my colorful watercolor still life paintings with Michael Sterling's stark and striking black and white digital photographs made for a compelling show! I was so proud to hang my work next to Michael's.
